Massage Therapy and Golf

Over the last few years, golfers at all skill levels have started to appreciate the tremendous benefits that massage therapy can have on improving their golf game.  Golfers are turning to massage therapy for everything from pain relief, increasing range of motion and flexibility to injury prevention.   Although massage therapy has been around for thousands of years it is only now starting to get recognition it deserves.  Whether you are a weekend warrior or a touring professional, including massage therapy as a regular part of your training program can help you to avoid injury, enhance golf performance and play more pain free golf.

Benefits of Massage Therapy for Golf:
  • Increases circulation that assists in removing metabolic wastes that can accumulate in muscles due to overuse and the repetitive motion of the golf swing
  • A massage therapist can help reduce muscle spasms, trigger points and adhesions that need to be addressed to help prevent injury and improve quality of movement.
  • Improve range of motion  and muscle flexibility resulting in increased power and performance
  • Decrease anxiety and stress levels
  • Improves mental focus
Orthopedic Massage
Focuses on dysfunction in the myosketelital system. Bringing on a balance between muscle joint weakness to muscle joint tightness which will create an instability within the joint structure. Creating pain or a kentic chain dysfunction.

Clinical Massage
A deep tissue massage is designed to relieve severe tension in muscles and connective tissue or fascia. It is often recommended for individuals who experience consistent pain with more postural strain injury, repetitive strain injury, etc. The term “deep tissue” is often misused to identify a massage that is performed with sustained deep pressure. A deep tissue massage is a separate category of massage therapy which is used to treat particular muscular skeletal disorders and complaints. A deep tissue massage employs a dedicated set of techniques and strokes to achieve a measure of relief. It should not be confused with “deep pressure” massage which is one that is performed with sustained strong, occasionally intense pressure throughout a full body session, which is not performed to address a specific complaint. Deep tissue massage is applied to both the superficial and deep layers of muscles, fascia, and other structures.

Medical Massage
Diagnosed by a physician, a medical massage is result oriented used to resolve conditions by using a wide range of modalities and/or procedures. Some of these conditions include:
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome
  • Piriformis syndrome
  • Rotator cuff injuries
  • Pain associated with bulged or injured spinal disks (medical massage cannot ‘fix’ the disk, but can help alleviate much of the pain associated with the injury).
  • Migraines/headaches
  • Pain associated with pregnancy
  • Constipation
  • Range of motion issues
  • Back and Neck  pain
  • Plantar fasciitis (involving pain in the foot)
